The California Department of Public Health Healthcare-Associated Infections program (CDPH-HAI) is hosting a free webinar series for nursing homes to comply with the new law requiring facilities to adopt and implement an antimicrobial stewardship policy by January 1, 2017.
This program is being funded Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in order to perform infection control assessments in skilled nursing, as well as other healthcare settings. CDPH-HAI’s objective is to visit and provide helpful, tailored feedback to up to 140 California SNF by the end of 2016.
Each interactive one-hour webinar will address a topic area that aligns with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “Core Elements of Antibiotic Stewardship in Nursing Homes,” and will feature different presenters and panelists from key stakeholder organizations around the state. The webinars will emphasize practical strategies; examples of implementation and tools will be shared. One hour of CE credit (BRN/NHAP) is available for each webinar.
Antibiotics are frequently prescribed in nursing homes and can cause serious harms to residents, including Clostridium difficile infections. Antibiotic stewardship activities promote appropriate antibiotic use by optimizing antibiotic selection, dosing, route and duration of therapy.
