Founded in 1961, LeadingAge California is the state’s leading advocate for quality, not-for-profit senior living and care. The association’s advocacy, educational programs and public relations help its members best serve the needs of more than 120,000 of the state’s older adults. LeadingAge California represents nearly 600 nonprofit providers of senior living and care – including affordable housing, continuing care retirement communities, assisted living, skilled nursing, and home and community-based care; as well as our business partners and residents.

Governor Brown Signs His Final Budget
Governor Jerry Brown added his signature to his final budget late last week, expressing satisfaction for his accomplishment of creating a $9 billion rainy-day fund in anticipation of the state’s next recession. Additionally, the $139 billion spending plan prioritizes education, infrastructure, climate change and legal services for immigrants.

LeadingAge CA Co-sponsored Legislation Passes Senate Human Services Committee
On June 12, a LeadingAge California co-sponsored bill that would require all RCFEs to provide initial and annual training on the community’s disaster preparedness plan passed the Assembly Human Services Committee without one “no” vote. LeadingAge California is co-sponsoring this bill with the California Assisted Living Association (CALA) and 6Beds, Inc.
