Assisted Living Waiver Expansion Bill Vetoed

Governor Brown vetoed AB 2233 (Kalra, D-San Jose), as unfortunately expected by many of the supporters of the bill. In his veto message, he noted the increase included in this year's budget (a very modest 2,000 slots) and that future expansions can be considered in next year's budget.

Emergency Preparedness Bill Signed into Law

A LeadingAge California co-sponsored bill that would require all RCFEs to provide initial and annual training on the community’s disaster preparedness plan was signed by Governor Brown on September 11th. Additional co-sponsors include the California Assisted Living Association (CALA) and 6Beds, Inc.

Governor Vetoes LeadingAge CA Opposed Bill

Governor Brown vetoed a LeadingAge California-opposed bill,  AB 3088 (Chu), which would have required every CCRC to conduct an actuarial study and submit a capital improvement plan to DSS.

LeadingAge Announces 2019 Leadership Academy Fellows
LeadingAge national has announced its 2019 class of leadership fellows. The Leadership program, similar to LeadingAge California’s EMERGE program, allows participants to meet throughout the year to explore diverse perspectives from aging services leaders, learn from innovative care and service models, enhance their leadership skills and core competencies and advance person-centered programming in aging services. Act Now to Oppose Unnecessary CCRC Actuary Requirement Bill
A CALCRA-sponsored assembly bill that would require all Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) to conduct an actuarial study every five years is now on the senate floor. If the bill is passed off the floor without any amendments, the bill will head to the governor’s office for signature. MORE

RCFEs Will Soon Be Under a New Inspection Process – Are You Ready?
The care and services provided by Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFEs) have significantly changed over the past several years. RCFEs provide services and supports to a wide range of residents; some residents who are very independent and other residents who need assistance with the activities of daily living, are living with a diagnosis of dementia, or may be receiving home health care and/or hospice services. LeadingAge California Chosen to be Part of the CHIS LTSS Working Group
LeadingAge California has been chosen to be a member of the California Health Interview Survey’s (CHIS) LTSS Working Group for 2019. As many will recall, LeadingAge California strongly supported a Fiscal Year 2018-2019 budget item that would have provided $3 million dollars to CHIS to add long-term services and supports-related question to the survey.
