The Scholarship Program was developed to give members an opportunity to attend programs and education events who otherwise would be unable to participate because of financial limitations. The funds provide scholarships for administrators in training (AITs), nursing staff and for continuing education for employees of member organizations as outlined below. Scholarships are widely promoted to attract diverse participants. To date, the scholarship program has provided over $100,000 in assistance to members.
In 1996-97, CLARIA contributed $5,000 to the fund of which $4,754 was dispersed. A few private contributions were received. LeadingAge California created a restricted fund account for specific donations to the scholarship fund to be used only for granting scholarships. In 1996 the Public Policy scholarship was renamed the Angela Brown Scholarship (in honor of the late associate director of public policy who passed away on April 29, 1994, for her dedication and passion for aging services, its members and influencing policy). In 2002, LeadingAge California organized a golf tournament as a scholarship fundraiser. In 2003, a silent auction provided an additional fundraising venue for the scholarship program.
