Four state legislators have sent a letter to the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) Director Ben Metcalf asking that seniors be considered when making funding determinations. Assemblymember Ash Kalra (D – San Jose) drafted the letter and Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D- Santa Barbara), Assemblymember Anna Caballero (D - Salinas), and Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D- San Diego), signed-on in support. The letter urges HCD to “…help protect California’s seniors by taking the opportunity provided by the historic housing package adopted last year to help support the expansion of funding for affordable and low-income senior housing.”
The letter goes further to acknowledge that housing IS healthcare, particularly for older adults. “We cannot adequately care for our aging population without safe, supportive housing where senior can age at home and receive the care and services they need.”
