HUD Considers Changes in Fair Housing Act Enforcement

by Linda Couch, LeadingAge: According to a notice of proposed rulemaking published in the August 16 Federal Register, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is considering new approaches to enforcement of the Fair Housing Act.

The announcement states that HUD is taking a new look at the final rule issued three years ago, on July 16, 2015. HUD is considering potential changes the agency thinks may minimize regulatory requirements, focus on positive results, allow for more local control and innovation, and increase housing choice and supply.

HUD is taking public comments on the issues discussed in the notice of proposed rulemaking through October 15, 2018. Once the comment period ends, the agency will take additional time to go over the input it receives before taking any further action.
