2017 Affordable Senior Housing
Resident Advocacy Day

June 7, 2017
Sheraton Grand Hotel, Sacramento
11:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.

Affordable senior housing residents are invited to return to the Capitol to share their housing stories with legislators in an effort to raise awareness of the senior housing crisis and advocate for increased funding to address it.

Schedule:

The day will begin with residents arriving via member community busses to the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sacramento, for check-in between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be provided at 11:30 a.m. where residents will have an opportunity to connect with other senior housing residents. After lunch, advocates will advance to the Capitol building, armed with personal stories, feelings of empowerment, and very large buttons to demonstrate solidarity and draw attention to the need for a permanent source of funding for affordable housing. Advocates will attend two meetings with legislative representatives between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Sponsorship Opportunities

Since 2011, LeadingAge California has organized an Annual Affordable Senior Housing Resident Advocacy Day that gives residents of affordable senior housing an opportunity to travel to the Capitol and share their stories with state legislators about how affordable housing has impacted their lives. The event has grown significantly over the years and become very popular for our members and the seniors they serve throughout Northern California.

This event has become an important piece of LeadingAge California's advocacy strategy relating to financing for affordable senior housing.

Registration is free for participants, so your contribution will help to provide participating seniors with a sit-down lunch, advocacy materials and afternoon snacks.
