HUD Under Continuing Resolution Until December 7
Unable to reach a deal on a four-bill appropriations package, Congress has passed a continuing resolution to keep HUD and some other federal programs funded through December 7. While Congress is poised to enact five of the 12 annual appropriations bills before the October 1 start of fiscal year 2019, the HUD bill is not among these. The President signed the continuing resolution on September 28. MORE

Four state legislators have sent a letter to the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) Director Ben Metcalf asking that seniors be considered when making funding determinations.  MORE

Smoke Free Housing: Updates and Resources
Recently Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) were required to ban the use of prohibited tobacco products in all public housing units, interior common areas, and outdoor areas within 25 feet of public housing and administrative office buildings. MORE

National Low Income Housing Coalition Release Out of Reach Data for 2018
The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) has released its annual Out of Reach (OOR) Report for 2018. The data in the report compares rents and wages across the country, for state, counties and cities. Out of Reach 2018 demonstrates once again that wages are insufficient to afford market-rate rental apartments throughout California. MORE
